What Is Biothane?
What is Biothane?
Biothane/ Rubberised Webbing is a synthetic material developed to offer the benefits of both traditional leather and nylon webbing and is vegan friendly.
The Advantages of Biothane for BDSM Gear
Biothane is incredibly durable, making it an excellent choice for BDSM gear. Unlike leather, it doesn't stretch, fade crack, or weaken over time. This material is resistant to moisture, oils, and UV exposure, ensuring that your gear remains in top condition even with heavy use. Whether you're into bondage, restraints, or impact play, Biothane can handle it all.
If you are vegan, Biothane is a no brainer in my opinion, and far superior to Faux Leather which cracks and peels pretty fast.
One of the standout features of Biothane is its effortless maintenance. Leather requires regular conditioning and can be difficult to clean, making it susceptible to wear and tear. Biothane, on the other hand, is low-maintenance and easy to clean. A simple wipe with a damp cloth or a disinfectant solution is all that's needed to keep your gear looking and feeling its best. This is particularly important for hygiene in BDSM play.
Customising Your Look
Biothane comes in a variety of colours, finishes, and textures. Ceremony Leather can also use heat vinyl and leather paint to customise your order with text, pictures or symbols, adding an extra layer of customization to your equipment. Just send me a message with any ideas you have!
Safety and Comfort
It's gentle on the skin, providing a comfortable and safe experience for both the dominant and the submissive. Unlike some rough materials like pure nylon webbing that can chafe.
It's resistant to moisture, making them suitable for wet and messy scenes.
I'm slightly more restricted in what I can create with Biothane. I can't stitch it or emboss it, and there's certain things I can do with leather that I can't do with Biothane. The colours and widths are also pre-determined which means it's not as easy to get a custom colour. Leather is also a natural, biodegradable product , compared to the plastic nature of biothane and more traditional for BDSM - The smell, texture, and patina of leather is often very important to people and is a big part of what they love about fetish gear. Leather will also mold to the human body after a period of breaking it in, whereas biothane will generally hold it's shape for the life of the product.
I hope this helps you choose which material is better for you and your play!
